Victor G Thomas is one of New York’s youngest and most prolific Urban Explorers. Urbexers explore places out of reach of normal citizens and take artistic photographs for their legions of Instagram followers. Abandoned factories, the tunnels beneath the city and perhaps most spectacularly, climbing to the top of skyscrapers are the terrain of the fearless Urbexer. It is here, half a mile above ground level, perching on the side of off-limit high-rises that Vic feels truly at home. But also for Vic, Urbex is like a political act. These high rises are the realm of the rich elite, out of bounds to the rest of the city’s inhabitants. Vic’s infiltration levels the playing field, allowing him (and through his images, all of us) access to a perspective of the city few of us will ever see.
