Ruth is released from prison and is befriended by a lawyer and his wife, who takes it upon himself to trace Ruth's long lost sister. Meanwhile, Michael and Rachel are stunned when their eldest adopted daughter is badly injured in a car accident.

As Lucy awakes from her coma, her parents respond to John's letter and meet with Lucy's biological sister Ruth. Out for revenge, Steve makes a decision about how to get back at Ruth.

Ruth opens her heart to Izzy and offers up some shocking revelations about her past. Emily's plan to reunite Ruth with her sister works, but not in the way she would have wished.
