Biotechnology corporation Lumon Industries paved the way for a controversial workplace arrangement that requires its basement floor workers to be “severed”. This means that via a medical procedure, employees have no memories of the outside world when at work and have no memories of their work life once they leave.

A severed department led by Mark Scout, Macrodata Refinement (MDR), begins to wonder what it is exactly they do, as well as question Lumon’s mysterious ways of operating. As they resist and fight in search of the truth, they uncover unsettling secrets that will change their lives forever.
