Beatrice finds out some exciting news and both she and Peter deal with another more shocking arrival.

Pressure is mounting on Peter as he is forced to hide his fugitive brother, Simon - but how long can he keep Simon's reappearance a secret? Meanwhile, Peter becomes involved when a doting daughter accuses her seriously ill father's nurse of being more interested in his money than his well-being - but is all as it seems? Elsewhere, Lyle is forced to bare all to resolve a dispute.

Peter decides to let Simon face the consequences of his actions, after Simon is arrested on suspicion of identity fraud. Elsewhere, Peter represents a pregnant woman attempting to trace her partner for child support payments, but the man in questions appears to have gone AWOL from his job with the US Air Force, and Lyle is seduced by an attractive biker, but discovers that she is just trying to evade a penalty for speeding.

Simon is back and tells Peter that he's ready to start work. Peter has to sort out a sponsorship dispute between the local sex shop and the cricket team - then he knocks team captain Nigel Pearson down while riding Lyle's bike. Meanwhile, Simon is having a passionate affair with a mystery blonde who turns out to be Nigel's wife, and Lyle is called upon to represent a lady who refuses to pay her council tax.

Peter visits Cambridge and is drawn into a battle between his old professor and the partner of a recently deceased female biologist. Back in Market Shipborough, with just Lyle and Gloria's son in the office, things quickly descend into chaos, and Simon gets an unexpected call from Beatrice asking him to be her birthing partner.

Beatrice returns with new baby Petra in her arms, and everyone gets soaked by the malfunctioning sprinklers during rehearsals for Aunt Auriel's summer play, so the cast have to relocate temporarily to Kingdom and Kingdom. Elsewhere, Lyle tries to help a young girl who is struggling to cope with caring for her sick mother and younger sister, and Simon's trial is dropped due to a lack of evidence.
