We want to assure you that your information and data is safe with Us. We employ the highest standard of physical and electronic measures to protect the safety, security and secrecy of your personal information.

The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act), the Australian Privacy Principles, Privacy Regulation 2013 (Regulations) and registered privacy codes govern the way in which We manage your personal information (Privacy Laws). 

We recommend you read this Privacy Policy (the “Privacy Policy”) carefully as it contains important information about what to expect when CompareTV collects, handles and uses your personal information that it receives from you and where it receives your personal information from any third parties that it has a business relationship with. 

We are committed to safeguarding the privacy of the persons that use Our website www.comparetv.com.au, any other website that We own and manage ( “Website”)and CompareTV services (together the “Services”) according to the Terms of Service through the Website on any electronic or mobile device (“Device”).

We would like You to know that We do not sell your information to anyone whatsoever. We ensure complete secrecy and privacy of your data entrusted to Us. We also enter into confidential and processing data agreements with Our related bodies corporate and Our suppliers among others to protect your personal information.

What information We may collect and hold about You

While using Our online Services, We automatically record information regarding Your usage and activities whilst using Our Services, including, but with no limitation to, Your Device Internet Protocol address (the “IP address”), browser type, the web page visited before You were redirected or came to our Website, information you search for on Our Website, identification numbers associated with Your Device(s), browser type and version, operating system, referral source, length of visit, page views, website navigation, Your locale preferences, system configuration information, Your mobile carrier, other interactions with Our Services, and other data recorded by Google Analytics that You can read more about here. 

We may also collect information about You that is available from a social media or other platform providers if You use a link via Your social media account to access Our Services.

In addition, if You apply for a job or position with Us, We may collect certain information from You (including Your name, contact details, working history, and relevant records checks) from any recruitment consultant, Your previous employers, and others who may be able to provide information to Us to assist in Our decision on whether or not to make You an offer of employment or engage You under a contract.

The Privacy Act contains certain exemptions in relation to certain acts undertaken in relation to employee records and related bodies corporate.   • Much of the information We hold about You will be stored electronically. We store some of Your information in secure data centres that are located in Australia. We also store information in data centres of Our contracted service providers (including cloud storage providers), and some of these data centres may be located outside of Australia. 
    We use a range of physical, electronic and other security measures to protect the security, confidentiality and integrity of the personal information We hold both in Australia and overseas. For example: When You enter personal information, We encrypt the transmission of that Information using socket layer technology (SSL). It is Your responsibility to use a browser that is SSL-enabled, such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer when Your personal information is transmitted over the Internet.

Cookies & pop-ups

We may use cookies on Our website. A cookie is a file containing an identifier (a string of letters and numbers) that is sent by a web server to a web browser and is stored by the browser. The identifier is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server.

Cookies may be either “persistent” cookies or “session” cookies: a persistent cookie will be stored by a web browser and will remain valid until its set expiry date, unless deleted by the User before the expiry date; a session cookie, on the other hand, will expire at the end of the User session, when the web browser is closed.

Cookies do not typically contain any information that personally identifies a User, but personal information that We store about You may be linked to the information stored in and obtained from the cookies. We may also use a pop-up notice which only stores Your session information, device details and geo-location. The purpose of the pop-up is for Users that choose to subscribe, there will be a content drip workflow that periodically provides the User with articles and information related to Our services. The article/information page links will appear in the User’s browser while they are browsing at other sites. 

Marketing

We may also wish to provide You with information about special features of the Website or any other service or products We think may be of interest to You. If You would rather not receive this information, You can opt-out by clicking the ‘unsubscribe’ link contained in the email communication. If You agree to Us providing You with this type of information, You can always opt out at a later date.

In order to be able to use the Service, You do not need to register but We are building an email database for newsletters. Should You wish to sign up for such newsletter We will ask for Your first and last name as well as Your email address.

We may also want to provide You with related information from third parties We think may be of interest to You. If You would rather not receive this information, You can opt out by clicking the ‘unsubscribe’ link contained in the email communication. If You agree to Us providing You with third party marketing information, You can always opt out at a later date.

Access to Your information and updating and correcting Your information

You may exercise Your rights of access, request of correction, erasure and objection of Your personal information or revoke Your consent for receipt of commercial communications by sending such a request to: editor@comparetv.com.au.

We may refuse to erase Your personal information where We have a legitimate reason or are able to continue to hold and process Your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act.

We want to ensure that Your personal information is accurate and up to date. If any of the information that You have provided to CompareTV changes, for example if You change Your email address or name or if you wish to cancel Your newsletter subscription and delete Your personal information from the Website, please let Us know by sending an e-mail to editor@comparetv.com.au.  You may ask Us, or We may ask you, to correct information You or We think is inaccurate, and You may also ask Us to remove information which is inaccurate.

We may refuse to give You access to personal information We hold about You if We reasonably believe that giving access would pose a serious threat to the life, health or safety of an individual, or to the public health or safety, where giving access would be unlawful, where giving access would have an unreasonable impact on the privacy of other individuals, if there are legal proceedings, or if We consider the request to be frivolous or vexatious. 

If We refuse to give You access to or to correct Your personal information, We will give You a notice explaining our reasons except where it would be unreasonable to do so. 

Overseas transfers

We will not purposely transfer Your information overseas but You need to bear in mind that due to the global nature of the Internet the information You provide may be transferred to countries that do not have similar protections in place reading Your data and restrictions on its use. We take steps to make sure adequate protections are in place to ensure the security of Your information. By submitting Your Information You consent to the above described transfers.

In the event We are required to disclose Your personal information to an overseas recipient, unless a permitted general situation applies, We will take all reasonable steps to ensure that:

Notifiable Data Breaches 

From February 2018, the Privacy Act includes a new Notifiable Data Breaches scheme (NDB) which requires Us to notify You and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) of certain data breaches and recommend steps You can take to limit the impacts of a breach (for example, a password change). The NDB scheme requires Us to notify about a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm to affected individuals. 

There are exceptions where notification is not required. For example, where We have already taken appropriate remedial action that removes the risk of serious harm to any individuals. If We believe there has been a data breach that impacts Your personal information and creates a likely risk of serious harm, We will notify You and the OAIC as soon as possible and notify You about the nature of the breach, the steps We are taking and what You can do to reduce the impacts to Your privacy. If You believe that any personal information, We hold about You has been impacted by a data breach, You can contact Us using the contact details below.

Retaining and deleting personal information

We will retain Your personal information for as long as legally required and when We are no longer legally required or have a legitimate purpose to retain it, We will either delete, destroy, desensitize or anonymize it.

We may retain Your personal information where such retention is necessary for compliance with a legal or regulatory obligation to which We are subject, or in order to protect Your vital interests or the vital interests of another natural person.

We may also de-identify Your personal information which We have collected for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. As a result, this Privacy Policy and Privacy Laws will generally not apply to Our use of de-identified information. However, We will continue to safeguard this de-identified information.

Under the Privacy Laws You may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) about the way We have handled Your privacy complaint. Please note the OAIC requires that any complaint be first made to Us as the respondent organisation. Sale of business

If CompareTV’s business is sold or integrated with another business Your details may be disclosed to Our advisers and any prospective purchasers and their advisers and will be passed on to the new owners of the business.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We keep the Privacy Policy under regular review and reserve the right to make changes at any time. If We change the Privacy Policy We will post the changes on Our Website, and place notices on other pages of the Website, so that You may be aware of the information We collect and how We use it at all times. 

The revised Privacy Policy shall apply from the date of publication of the revised Privacy Policy on Our Website, and You hereby waive any right You may otherwise have to be notified of, or to consent to, revisions of the Privacy Policy.

Any subsequent access to, or use by You, of the Website or any of Our services will constitute acceptance of any varied or modified Privacy Policy.
