The massive success of all the Spider Man movies began on print. Before Spider-Man, teenagers in comics often played sidekicks to protagonists. So when the character was created in the 1960s, Spider-Man immediately stood out from the others as the first solo teenage crime-fighting superhero.
When Sony acquired the film rights to the character, Spider-Man was brought to life on the big screen and has been one of the top favourite superheroes since then. Sam Raimi’s version of the character catapulted lead star Tobey Maguire to international fame after starring in all three films: Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3.
Then comes Andrew Garfield in Marc Webb’s iteration of the film with The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. A third The Amazing Spider-Man movie was in the works but was eventually cancelled after the new Spider-Man film series with Marvel Studios was announced.
Disney and Marvel Studios’ deal with Sony paved the way for a new version of Spider-Man being integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man role. In the new reboot, three Spider Man movies have been released: Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
In the latest Spider-Man film, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprised their respective Spider-Man roles when Doctor Strange inadvertently broke the multiverse open.
