The blacksmith, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), teams up with Captain Jack Sparrow to save Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) from Captain Barbossa. Elizabeth possesses a very valuable coin that can curse anyone to be doomed for eternity, to be neither alive nor dead. The coin puts all the crew who kidnapped her under this curse and the only way to save them is through a blood sacrifice.
2. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006)
Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann are arrested for helping Captain Jack Sparrow in fighting Captain Barbossa. In order to save their lives, they trade and agree to get the compass that Captain Sparrow has in order to find the dead man’s chest. This chest contains the heart of Davy Jones, who takes control of the sea with his ghost ship – the Flying Dutchman and his crew from hell.
It is said that once anyone possesses this chest, they have the power to control the sea. Jack Sparrow, on the other hand, wants to find this chest to pay his debt to Davy Jones and finally be free from his curse. Yet again, the trio are on a wild adventure to save themselves from death and debt.
3. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007)
Will Turner aids Lord Beckett in claiming the dead man’s chest and gaining power over Davy Jones. Now that Lord Beckett has gained control of the Flying Dutchman, his next step is to eradicate all the pirates in the sea with the help of Davy Jones’s power.
Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann, and Captain Barbossa are now standing against the East India Trading to save Captain Jack Sparrow from Davy Jones’ Locker. In order to defeat Lord Beckett’s forces, they must unleash an ancient goddess, Calypso, Davy Jones’s cursed lover.
4. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)
After his previous adventures with Turner and Swann, Captain Jack Sparrow is now on a quest to find the mythical Fountain of Youth. A lover from his past encourages Sparrow to board the ship captained by a notorious pirate, Blackbeard. Along with their voyage in finding the fabled Fountain of Youth, they are also in a race against the Spanish fleet joined by the former pirate Captain Barbossa.
As their journey advances, Captain Jack Sparrow doesn’t know who he must fear more, Black Beard or Angelica – his lover from the past. This is the first film in the franchise not to feature Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.
5. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)
Captain Jack Sparrow yet again faces another misfortune when his former nemesis, Captain Armando Salazar (Javier Bardem), escapes from the Devil’s triangle and sets a course to kill all the pirates in the sea, especially him.
In order to be spared and escape the wrath of Salazar, Sparrow has to seek the legendary Trident of Poseidon, an artifact that is known to empower whoever possesses it with total control of the sea.
Will Johnny Depp return as Captain Jack Sparrow in future films?
The 2017 instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean is said to be the last film featuring Johnny Depp as its main lead.
