What is the Bourne movies about? 

The Bourne franchise begins with The Bourne Identity and follows the story of a super spy who suffers from dissociative amnesia. As he tries to seek answers and fill the void of his empty memories, he uncovers more secrets connecting his past to a clandestine conspiracy within the CIA.

All of Ludlum’s Bourne novels were adapted for the screen featuring Matt Damon as the title character. All throughout the Bourne franchise, there have been changes to its production, especially with the directors. Doug Liman directed The Bourne Identity (2002), Paul Greengrass directed The Bourne Supremacy (2004), The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) and Jason Bourne (2016), and Tony Gilroy directed the Jeremy Renner-starrer The Bourne Legacy (2012).

During the 2012’s The Bourne Legacy, Jeremy Renner was introduced as the main character Aaron Cross. Matt Damon did not appear in this instalment, however, his character has been mentioned with pictures of him appearing all throughout the film.

Slowly regaining his memory, he recovers his identity and finds out that some powerful people are not happy to see him alive, people who are willing to go the extra mile to make sure he’s gone for good.

2. The Bourne Supremacy (2004)

Jason Bourne finally recovers most of his memories and now faces the full wrath of the CIA. Bourne is trying his best to exist far from his enemies, but they just couldn’t leave him and his partner, Marie, alone. When tragedy strikes, he becomes resolved to confront his past and face the people responsible for destroying his attempt at a normal life. 

3. The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)

Bourne’s efforts in escaping from his past comes to an end when he was sought by a London-based reporter and opens up Operation Blackbriar. As he tries to complete the puzzle of his blurred and missing memories, his meeting with this reporter stirs a new set of memories he didn’t know exist. 4. The Bourne Legacy (2012)

When Jason Bourne disappears after exposing the Black Ops operations named Black Briar and Treadstone program to the public, the people behind these operations decide to eradicate all those who are involved and know their existence. One of the people they are trying to shut down is Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner), who is part of another operation called Outcome.

He manages to survive and fake his death, allowing him to find out more about Outcome and why he’s being hunted. His search for answers leads him to Dr. Marta Shearing (Rachel Weisz), a virologist who specialises in creating and maintaining the enhancements given to Outcome agents.

5. Jason Bourne (2016)

Matt Damon is back again in the latest Bourne movie instalment. Jason Bourne is still hunted by the people behind the black operation of Black Briar and Treadstone that he used to be a part of. Nicky Parsons (Julia Stiles) and a former CIA operative helped Bourne to expose more of the CIA’s black operations. 

After gaining access to all the information about the black operations, CIA Director Robert Dewey mandates to hunt down Parson and, hopefully Bourne, to stop them from exposing all the data they had taken from them. The Jason Bourne cast features a roster of brilliant actors that include Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander, Julia Stiles, Riz Ahmed, and Vincent Cassel. 

A sixth Bourne film may be in the works as stated by producer Frank Marshall. He confirmed that he and his team are already making plans for Bourne 6 with Matt Damon back as the title character, Jason Bourne, and Paul Greengrass to direct.
