The Earthshot Prize is one of the most prestigious awards in history, recognising noble accomplishments that benefit the environment. With Prince William and The Royal Foundation as its driving force, the goal of the Earthshot Prize is to discover and create revolutionary solutions that can save the planet from the environmental adversities it currently faces.
Highlighting its utmost importance to give Earth and its future a shot, the Earthshot Prize released a five-part documentary series, Repairing Our Planet, which follows the journey of the 15 Earthshot Prize finalists and the work they’ve done to make a difference. It premiered in Australia in last October 2021 with Discovery as its broadcast partner, find out how to watch the Earthshot Prize limited series below.
What is the Earthshot Prize?
The Prize is divided into five categories – Protect and Restore Nature; Clean our Air; Revive our Oceans; Build a Waste-free World; and Fix our Climate. One winner is annually selected from each category from 2021 to 2030, with five winners each year. Bolstered by a unified goal to improve life and an unwavering search for evidence-based solutions, the Earthshot Prize will help repair our planet, as well as impart greater consciousness and moral obligation to all of mankind, so as to be more compassionate to the natural world we live in.
The Earthshot Prize aims to highlight both the most pressing challenge and the victories that can be accomplished when people are bonded by the same purpose, that is to prevail over environmental challenges and repair our planet over the next decisive decade through human ingenuity. Its council takes inspiration from President John F. Kennedy’s Moonshot, in which he united millions of people to put a man on the moon and paved the way for the discovery and development of new technology in the ’60s. The Earthshot Prize strives for the same impact to mobilise collective action, especially with Earth as its tipping point.

The documentary series features Prince William, Sir David Attenborough, and other members of the Earthshot Prize Council. The five Earthshot challenges are showcased in the programme’s five episodes, as well as the awe-inspiring work of the Prize’s finalists. It covers the toughest issues that the environmental world has had to endure while also focusing more on solutions. By showcasing its first ever 15 finalists, the viewers become a part of their quest for a waste-free world, fix climate change in this critical decade, and ensure that Earth will thrive and persist for future generations.
The launch of the series coincided with its first awards ceremony, which took place on 17th October 2021. There was a live award ceremony streaming via Discovery’s (Foxtel / Foxtel Now) Facebook page. All the five winners at the Earthshot Prize ceremony were given a global platform so that their stories are disseminated and their solutions lead to mass adoption. Each winner also received £1 million in prize money to support environmental and conservation projects and make the most progress towards these goals.
