What is the plot of S.W.A.T. Season 8?
With the new season kicking off, long-time fans can finally get into the action in every episode, starting with the team scrambling to save school children who were abducted. The case becomes personal for Hondo (Shemar Moore) after learning that the bus’ school driver was his former high school coach.
Meanwhile, Devin Gamble is having a hard time getting along with the team, especially since Hicks outright shows his distrust. Gamble’s complicated past, which also involves her father’s crime of killing a cop, is the main reason why it’s not easy for her to adjust to her role on the team.
Every season of the SWAT TV show has proven to be action-filled and downright thrilling with CBS delivering indulgent storylines. For instance, after Hondo’s leadership is questioned at the end of the fourth season, he finds himself entangled in one local family’s fight for justice in Mexico.
He eventually regained command in the fifth season. By SWAT Season 6, we saw Hondo’s team upping their training with Thailand’s main SWAT team, only to stumble upon a global heroin operation with ties to Los Angeles.

In SWAT Season 7, we saw Hondo and his team in Mexico. During this season, it’s worth noting that Kenneth “Kenny” Johnson and Alex Russell, who play Officer III+1 Dominique Luca and Officer III James “Jim” Street, respectively, only appeared recurrently, leaving the show earlier than the rest of the main cast.
The latest eighth season features the return of main cast members Shemar Moore as Sergeant II Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson Jr., Jay Harrington as Sergeant II David “Deacon” Kay, David Lim as Officer III Victor Tan, Patrick St. Esprit as Commander Robert Hicks, Rochelle Aytes as Nichelle Carmichael, Anna Enger Ritch as Officer III Zoe Powell, and Niko Pepaj as Officer III Miguel “Miko” Alfaro. SWAT Season 8 also introduces new character Officer III Devin Gamble, played by Annie Ilonzeh.

Notable cast members like Alex Russell, who played Officer III James “Jim” Street, left the series after SWAT Season 6, although he appeared as a recurring character in SWAT Season 7. Kenny Johnson, who starred as Officer III+1 Dominique Luca, also left the show after Season 6.
S.W.A.T. is based on the 1975 show and 2003 film by the same name, created by Robert Hamner and developed by Rick Husky for Original Film, CBS Studios and Sony Pictures Television. S.W.A.T. Season 7 was meant to be its final season, but CBS reversed the decision and renewed the show for SWAT Season 8 instead — a welcome news to fans worldwide.
