The Wild Robot Streaming: Release date and where to watch in Australia

DreamWorks’ new animated film The Wild Robot is based on Peter Brown’s book series of the same name. 

A robot named Roz is shipwrecked on an island surrounded by its harsh surroundings. Stranded, she must learn to adapt to her new environment to survive. When she comes across an orphaned gosling, Roz develops a maternal bond with him and eventually learns to live a life in the wild. 

Acclaimed by critics and viewers alike, The Wild Robot was one of 2024’s best new animated films, and soon you’ll be able to watch it at home. Here’s how:

The Wild Robot streaming Australia release date

Several months after hitting Australian cinemas on 12 September 2024 (19 September in other cinemas), The Wild Robot will finally be available to watch at home via subscription streaming.

On Friday, 18 April 2025, The Wild Robot will be streaming on BINGE. On Foxtel and Foxtel Now, the hit animated film will be launching the following day, Saturday, 19 April 2025.

What is The Wild Robot about?

When a cargo ship runs aground on an island, a robot named Roz survives and is immediately introduced to the harsh environments of the wild. Following an accident, the robot becomes the guardian of an orphaned gosling, Brightbill.

With a fragile creature in her care, Roz must adapt to her new surroundings not only for her own survival, but also for the survival of the baby goose. 

Discovering new things and unveiling emotions that are beyond her programming, Roz forms a deep bond with Brightbill, as well as friendship with the animals on the island she now considers her home.

But when Brightbill learns the truth about Roz’s role in the destruction of his nest, he grows to resent her and decides to leave. Roz’s manufacturer also learns of her survival, asking her to come back. Refusal means dangerous consequences for Roz and every animal on the island. 

Based on Peter Brown’s award-winning book series of the same name, the film is written and directed by Chris Sanders and produced by DreamWorks Animation.

The voice cast of The Wild Robot includes Lupita Nyong’o as ROZZUM unit 7134 (Roz), Pedro Pascal as Fink, Kit Connor as Brightbill, Catherine O’Hara as Pinktail, Bill Nighy as Longneck, Stephanie Hsu as Vontra, Mark Hamill as Thorn, Matt Berry as Paddler, and Ving Rhames as Thunderbolt.
