What is the new Matlock TV series about?
In this gender flipping reboot of the original Matlock TV series, Kathy Bates plays Madeline “Matty” Matlock, an unassuming former lawyer, who’s also a widow, secures a job at the law firm Jacobson & Moore.
In reality, she is Madeline Kingston, a tenacious, wealthy woman whose husband is very much still alive. They’re raising their grandson after his mother died of a drug overdose.
Believing that someone at Jacobson & Moore is hiding something about her daughter’s death, she seeks out a job in order to get to the bottom of the opioid crisis that resulted in her grandson becoming an orphan.

Hiding her brilliance, grit, and tenacity, she lets the people around pay her no mind, allowing her to investigate her daughter’s death, win cases, and expose corruption from within.
The Matlock 2024 series is not a reboot, but was inspired by the classic television series of the same name. It is developed by Jennie Snyder Urman, best known for her works in hit shows Charmed and Jane the Virgin. The original Matlock series was created by Dean Hargrove.
The new Matlock series stars Kathy Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock / Madeline Kingston, Skye P. Marshall as Olympia, Jason Ritter as Julian, David Del Rio as Billy, Leah Lewis as Sarah, Beau Bridges as Senior, and Andrea Londo as Simone.
