What is the plot of Lockerbie: A Search for Truth?
A collaboration between Universal International Studios’ Carnival Films and Sky Studios, Lockerbie: A Search for Truth dramatises the events following the Lockerbie bombing in December 1988.
Colin Firth plays Dr. Jim Swire, whose life is shattered after finding out that his daughter, Flora, was amongst those who died when Pan Am Flight 103 was destroyed by a bomb while flying over the Scottish town of Lockerbie.
The deadliest terrorist attack in Britain’s history, the truth about the devastating tragedy and who caused it becomes marred with controversy and allegations of cover-up, leading for Swire to uncover the truth himself no matter the cost and consequences.
At its core, the series revolves around a father’s harrowing grief over the loss of his daughter, which heartbreakingly evolves into an indomitable search for truth and justice that spans three decades.
The television adaptation is written by David Harrower and Maryam Hamidi and directed by Otto Bathurst and Jim Loach, while executive producers include Sam Hoyle for Sky Studios and David Harrower, Liz Trubridge, Jim Sheridan, Kirsten Sheridan, Oskar Slingerland, Nigel Marchant, and Gareth Neame.
It stars Firth as Jim Swire, Catherine McCormack as Jane Swire, Sam Troughton as Murray Guthrie, and Mark Bonnar as Roderick McGill. Supporting cast includes Ardalan Esmaili, Guy Henry, and Nabil Al Raee.
What is Lockerbie: A Search for Truth based on?
The miniseries is based on the book “The Lockerbie Bombing: A Father’s Search for Justice” by Jim Swire and Peter Biddulph. As one of the world’s worst terrorist attacks devastates hundreds of families, Jim Swire questions the official investigation and its findings.
His doubts lead him to instigate a controversial, decades-spanning campaign that eventually takes him to Libya, all while threatened by heightened international conflict.
