Leave the World Behind plot and cast
Longing for a vacation, Amanda (Roberts) books a fancy house in the remote parts of Long Island with her family – husband Clay (Hawke) and teenage kids Archie (Charlie Evans) and Rose (Farrah Mackenzie).
But just before they can really enjoy their much-needed time off away from the rest of civilisation, the owners of the house, G.H. (Ali) and his daughter Ruth (Myha’la) show up to stay, announcing there’s a mysterious blackout in the city. Amanda, in particular, is wary of the house owners.
It turns out the nationwide blackout is real. All electronic devices have ceased to work and both families are stuck in the house with no way of knowing what’s happening in the real world.
Adding to each one’s fear and distrust, unexplained sonic booms and bizarre animation migration begin threatening the peace around them. Incapacitated to gain information, paranoia takes over.
The new film is based on Rumaan Alam’s 2020 best-selling novel of the same name. It features an ensemble cast that includes Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke, Myha’la, and Kevin Bacon.
Esmail and Roberts, who previously worked together in the shows Homecoming and Gaslit, also serve as producers alongside Chad Hamilton, Lisa Gillan, and Marisa Yeres Gill.
