Three families in Perth face the ultimate challenges, all while a power strike threatens to engulf the region in darkness. Around this time, the city is also gearing up for the Miss Universe pageant. Meanwhile, the US space station Skylab is hitting the headlines for crash landing outside the city.
With all these major events as backdrop, the families find themselves adjusting to “international cultural and political shifts” as they struggle to keep their marriages, friendships, and futures survive the rollercoaster of events seeping into their lives.

What is Last Days of the Space Age about?
Last Days of the Space Age is a new Australian drama following the story of Western Australia communities affected by Skylab crashing in 1979.
It centres on three families in a tight-knit community as they go through personal challenges amidst major events that include Skylab’s reentry near Perth, a global beauty pageant, and a power strike.
As uncontrollable events seep into their lives, affecting their choices and creating consequences, these families must also face the realities of an era ending and what it means for their futures.
The series is created and written by David Chidlow (Moving On). He’s joined by writers Alice Addison (Picnic at Hanging Rock), Dot West (The Heights), and Jeremy and Alan Nguyen (Hungry Ghosts). Filming took place in Perth, Western Australia and Sydney and Wollongong, New South Wales.
