An epic period fantasy series is streaming this month with the Willow TV series. Following an unlikely group of heroes as they embark on a dangerous quest to battle evil forces and ultimately save the world, Willow serves as the sequel to Ron Howard’s classic 1988 film of the same name. Warwick Davis returns to reprise the titular role he played decades ago, alongside original cast member Joanne Whalley who played Sorsha in the original movie.
Though Davis’ Willow remains to be the lead protagonist, much of the narrative in the Willow series will revolve around a new group of characters who face perilous journeys ahead of them. Needing someone good and wise to help them, they seek Willow’s aid along the way. Because not only do they need help in dealing with other mystical creatures, they also need guidance to face their inner demons.

Willow preview
In a magical world where mystical creatures flourish, Willow Ufgood has chosen to retreat to his woodland home. Now older and wiser and even fulfilling his dream of becoming a great sorcerer, his next adventure kicks off when a group of heroes (though they don’t know it yet) ask for his help to rescue a prince. A bold rescue mission at best, his magical prowess will be put to the test once again as he joins the group in their mission.
In the original movie, the story began when Elora Danan, an infant girl destined to unite the lands and defeat evil, must be protected. Enter Willow, whose quest primarily centres on ensuring that the prophesied princess is safe and the evil Queen Bavmorda does not succeed in performing a ritual that can compromise the prophecy.
Willow managed to accomplish his mission but what happened to Elora? And how will her story fit into the new Willow TV series? You’ll find out soon enough when Willow premieres this month on Disney Plus.
For fans of the classic movie, Davis is already a familiar face, having played the lead role in the 1988 movie. But he isn’t the only original cast member returning for the series. Joanne Whalley also returns as Sorsha, the daughter of the defeated evil Queen Bavmorda from the original film.
As per the official trailer, Kevin Pollak and Rick Overton have also returned for the show as Willow’s Brownie friends, although the extent of their characters’ involvement are still unknown. Unfortunately, Val Kilmer won’t be returning as Madmartigan
