The incredulous true story of Somen “Steve” Banerjee, an Indian immigrant who became the unlikely founder of the world’s greatest male-stripping empire, is the subject of the new miniseries, Welcome to Chippendales. The “Chippendales” was a popular male stripper troupe in the late 1970s and late 1980s. Targeting female audiences, it was the first of its kind in America. However, its success became mired in greed, betrayal, and ultimately, murder.
Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley, Eternals), Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey, Beauty and the Beast), and Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus, Looking), find out you can watch the new biographical series in Australia here.

Welcome to Chippendales preview
Based on the book “Deadly Dance: The Chippendales Murders” by K. Scot Macdonald and Patrick MontesDeOca, Welcome to Chippendales revolves around the life of the Chippendales founder Somen “Steve” Banerjee. Dreaming of a life of “sheer opulence”, he turns down the opportunity to become a general manager at the store he works in to start his own business – a strip club for women.
While his story is one that begins in his dream of making a name for himself, and the ultimate fulfilment of his grand ambitions, everything goes downhill when treachery and greed take the front seat. Resolved to protect the empire he had built from scratch, ruthlessness became his new business model and his eventual undoing.
This sprawling true crime saga following the outrageous story of Banerjee is created by Robert Siegel (The Wrestler and Pam & Tommy) for Hulu. Lead star Kumail Nanjiani serves as an executive producer for the show, alongside his wife Emily V. Gordon, who also joins the series as co-executive producer. Meanwhile, Jenni Konner, the writer of Girls and Single Drunk Female, is co-producer, alongside Nora Silver, Dylan Sellers, Rajiv Joseph, Matt Shakman, and Mehar Sethi.
