Warriors on the Field preview
The documentary Warriors on the Field tells the extremely personal and moving story of three Indigenous AFL players – AFL legend Michael O’loughlin, Michael ‘Sonny’ Walters, and Tarryn Thomas. As Warriors on the Field celebrates aboriginal Australia, the documentary revolves around the AFL players’ incredible origins, the obstacles they face on and off the field, and their spiritual connection to the rich history of the nation that matters so much to each of them.
It depicts life as a young Aboriginal man through the eyes of Michael O’Loughlin, playing backyard footy as he dreamed of playing in the AFL. Michael interacts with younger AFL players and their families to hear their tales and learn about the difficulties they face in building a name for themselves in the league. Current AFL players Michael “Sonny” Walters, a proud Noongar man from the Fremantle Dockers, and Tarryn Thomas, a Kamillaroi and Lumaranaana man from Sydney, also share their story for Prime Video members worldwide.
Speaking about this project, AFL Executive General Manager Inclusion and Social Policy Tanya Hosch said, “Our game has a rich history with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, so I’m looking forward to enabling others to share in this understanding and insight through the Warriors On The Field documentary.”
