With the third season ending early 2019, it’s been four long years since we last saw True Detective on our screens. True Detective plot

True Detective Season 1 follows Louisiana State Police detectives Rust Cohle (Matthew Mcconaughey) and Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson), and their excruciating pursuit of a serial killer connected with the occult over a 17-year period. The first season was cited as one of the strongest dramas of 2014.

True Detective Season 2 is set in California, and centres on three detectives from three cooperating police departments: California Highway Patrol officer Paul Woodrugh (Taylor Kitsch), Detective Ray Velcoro (Colin Farrell), and Detective Sergeant Ani Bezzerides (Rachel McAdams).

Alongside criminal-turned-businessman Frank Semyon (Vince Vaughn), they investigate a series of crimes they suspect are connected to the murder of a corrupt politician. The second season stands on its own with strong cast performances, although overall critical reception was divided.

True Detective Season 3 sees Academy Award-winning actor Mahershala Ali playing retired Detective Wayne Hays as he recalls the macabre crime in the Ozarks involving a young Arkansas boy and his sister.

Leading the investigation more than three decades ago with his then-partner Roland West (Stephen Dorff ), Hays’ vivid memories of the case and his many unanswered questions reopen buried truths. Scoot McNairy plays the father of the missing kids Tom Purcell and Mamie Gummer plays their mother Lucy Purcell.

In True Detective Night Country, two detectives partner up to solve the mysteries and the dark truths lying underneath the Arctic ice. Eight men have vanished without a trace while working at the Tsalal Arctic Research Station just as soon as the long winter night falls in the town of Ennis in Alaska.

Now, detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) must confront their fair share of inner demons all the while uncovering all the shocking truths involving the men and their baffling disappearance.

Just like the previous three seasons, Night Country is set to become a solid police drama armed with a talented cast and memorable moments that should outweigh predictable plot twists if there’s any.
