This England Season 1 preview
In This England, both the personal and political life of Prime Minister Boris Johnson is put to the test with the onset of a devastating pandemic. During his tumultuous first months in the office, government leaders scramble to mitigate the pandemic’s impact.
While the higher-ups decide and introduce numerous emergency powers and measures across the country, This England also depicts other stories that centre on experts and scientists, doctors and nurses, and all the frontline workers in a national effort to contain and overcome the virus.
As Johnson grapples with Covid-19, which was a major issue during his term, in addition to Brexit and being a controversial figure in British politics, This England is a portrayal of events in government that are interwoven with stories from around the country.
The six-part drama is co-written by Michael Winterbottom and Kieron Quirke with Winterbottom initially set to direct. He stepped down after filming began and was replaced by Julian Jarrold.
