A lonely single mother who’s longing for a connection suddenly finds it through an unspeakable tragedy in The House Across the Street. From Channel 5, this new UK drama stars Happy Valley actress Shirley Henderson as Claudia. Putting herself in the centre of the investigation as she attempts to gain the trust of the community who didn’t notice her before, her concern about a missing child soon becomes a growing obsession.

The House Across the Street preview
The House Across the Street (2022) follows Claudia, a school nurse who’s recovering from cancer and sharing custody of her son, who only grows distant as time goes by. Lacking meaningful relationships and ignored by her community, she struggles to find purpose and joy and suffers from life’s nagging discontent all alone. This all changes when a young child, Emily Winter, goes missing.
While initially concerned, she finds herself embroiled in the case more than she has to. This also gives her the opportunity to become a hero in a community that pays no attention to her, leading search efforts, organising a vigil, and raising money to help the missing girl’s family. Becoming more fixated on finding the truth, her fascination quickly begins to turn into delusion that she begins to integrate herself into the Winter family. What happens next is a series of twists and turns that will keep viewers guessing until the end.
