Watch The Grand Tour
Season 1, Season 2, and Season 3 of The Grand Tour, which aired between 2016 and 2019, focused on reviews of cars, timed laps, celebrity guests, road trips, and more challenges involving cars identical to Top Gear’s format. The new Season 4, however, saw The Grand Tour retiring its studio and audience format and transitioning to feature-length specials focusing on adventures around the world.
In the new season which uses the new format, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May travel from one location to another in cars they have chosen for certain tasks. But unlike Top Gear’s feature-length specials, The Grand Tour’s Season 4 mainly focuses on the experience of a global adventure so that its content goes beyond cars, which means no more automobile reviews.

The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown
The upcoming The Grand Tour episode will give its fans a thorough peek of an American road trip without the need to travel outside of the United Kingdom. This episode was supposed to be filmed in Russia but travel restrictions made that unlikely. Still wanting to deliver a special episode for the fans, this episode was filmed over a period of nine days in some isolated parts of Scotland. Swapping Russia for the Highlands might also be something that fans will want to see because of its simplicity, which can be just as fun as any grand scale global tour and adventure.
While there isn’t international travel, grandiose arrangements, and boisterous antics involved, the latest episode of The Grand Tour will still have the charm it has been known for, namely Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, and, of course, cars. And speaking of cars, the trio sets out to answer a crucial question as far as fun cars are involved: why the classic ’70s American cars were never embraced in Britain despite them dominating the TV shows of their childhood?
So in true Grand Tour fashion only Clarkson, Hammond, and May can pull off, they take on the Highlands, experiencing first-hand the iconic Cadillac Coupe De Ville driven by Elvis, a Lincoln Continental driven by Dallas’ Jock Ewing, and a Buick Riviera driven by Clint Eastwood. Based on the trailer released, it appears that this lockdown episode is one of The Grand Tour’s most hilarious and most action-packed road trips.
How many episodes are there in Season 4?
There have been two episodes released so far with the latest episode 3 coming to Prime Video on July 30. The fourth season of The Grand Tour is comprised of specials, which means fans will need to wait for up to a year to watch new episodes.
What’s next after The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown?
There’s no official word yet on what’s next for The Grand Tour after the most recent ‘Lochdown’ episode. Clarkson however did confirm that the plan is to film abroad but the destination is still unknown.
Note: Amazon and its streaming platform Prime Video have exclusive rights to The Grand Tour. The fourth season retired the tent format used from Season 1 and focused only on feature-length specials. The upcoming third episode of The Grand Tour special sees the return of Clarkson, Hammond, and May, which premieres on Amazon Prime on 30 July.
