The Forger (2022) movie preview
A powerful German film set during World War II, The Forger movie tells the incredible story of Cioma Schönhaus, a young German Jew living in Berlin who refuses to let the Nazis crush his spirit.
With the grim news of his family’s deportation to concentration camps, and facing the same threat of being deported, he discovers his talent for forgery and comes up with a daring plan to evade the Nazis. He decides to adopt the identity of a marine officer, realising that the best hiding spots are often in plain sight.
Cioma’s boldness allowed him to escape deportation and join a network of underground rescuers. With just a brush, some ink, and his art school background, he masterfully forged IDs that saved the lives of countless Jews fleeing the country to escape Nazi persecution.
As the war rages on and the danger to the young Jewish man intensifies, he knows that his only chance of survival lies in a final, desperate act of forgery. With his skills and steady hand, he sets to work on creating one last forged document – one that will bear his own name and identity that will allow him to escape once and for all.
The film shows how Cioma refuses to let anyone, especially not the Nazis, take away his zest for life even amidst the darkest moments of war. Along the way, he throws himself into the city’s nightlife with his friends to catch a glimpse of fragile hope for love.
