The Durrells preview
In 1935, Louisa Durrell surprises her four children when she makes the sudden decision to move from Bournemouth, England to the Greek island of Corfu. Her husband’s death a couple of years earlier and the family’s financial struggles ultimately led her to leave their town.
As the family prepares to start a new life, hope and optimism has initially fuelled their courage to embark on a completely unfamiliar journey. Nonetheless, struggles to adapt to their new life on the island is inevitable. And their money worries certainly don’t make it any easier.
But in the end, The Durrells discover that despite all its challenges (e.g., lack of electricity, outdated sewage systems), Corfu is an earthly paradise that doesn’t break the bank.
The Durrells is based on Gerald Durrell’s autobiographical books about his family’s time on the island. It’s adapted for television with Simon Nye (Men Behaving Badly) as writer. Nye also serves as an executive producer alongside and Lee Morris and Sally Woodward Gentle.
