Disney’s first scripted Australian series, The Clearing, has been finally confirmed to premiere in May, launching on Disney Plus’ Star content hub. Headlined by an exceptional line-up of Australian talent, including Teresa Palmer (A Discovery of Witches), Miranda Otto (Homeland), and Guy Pearce (Jack Irish), the eight-part psychological thriller is based on J.P. Pomare’s novel In The Clearing. The series also takes inspiration from the horrors of real-life cult. Ahead of its streaming premiere, find out more about Disney’s new thriller right here.

The Clearing TV series preview
The Clearing follows a woman haunted by her excruciating past. Despite being tortured by the nightmares of her former life, she must confront her inner demons to stop a secret cult intent on gathering children in order to attain a master plan so grim and unthinkable.
A psychological tale at its core, The Clearing presents an alternate reality inflicted by the wickedness of the real world, introducing a protagonist still living in the past and trapped in its nightmares.
Directed by Jeffrey Walker and Gracie Otto, The Clearing is also inspired by the real-life Australian cult, The Family, and its notorious founder, Anne Hamilton-Byrne, one of the rare female cult leaders in the world.
It is produced by Wooden Horse’s Jude Troy, alongside Wooden Horse’s Richard Finlayson and Egeria’s Elizabeth Bradley who serve as executive producers. Series director Jeffrey Walker also executive produces the show with Elise McCredie and Matt Cameron.
