The Chase Australia preview
The Chase Australia is the local version of the internationally acclaimed British game show of the same name. It was commissioned and aired its pilot episode on September 2015. With its exciting format and the chance to win a whopping cash prize, this show has reeled in audiences across the country.
After original host Andrew O’Keefe’s contract wasn’t renewed, Larry Emdur replaces him for The Chase Australia 2022 edition. The game show brings together four strangers who are ready to put their trivia brains to the test to build as big a cashpot as they can. Standing in their way is the chaser, one of the world’s top expert determined to outsmart the contestants at every turn.
Each contestant faces two rounds individually. In the first round, known as the “Cash Builder,” they have one minute to answer as many questions as possible, earning $2,000 for each correct answer. Then, the contestant goes head-to-head with the chaser, attempting to move the money down a seven-step gameboard and into the team bank.
They start at different positions on the board, depending on the choices made, aiming to reach the bottom (“home”) by answering a specific number of questions correctly. The starting positions determine the prize amount, with higher positions offering greater awards. However, since 2016, the chaser can also offer lesser awards, including zero or even negative amounts.
With each correct answer, they move one step ahead, inching closer to victory. But make no mistake, this is no easy feat, as chasers are known for their sharp intellect and quick thinking. Recorded in Sydney, the Australian version of the quiz series has become a staple on television, attracting viewers with its high-stakes gameplay and engaging challenges. The show has gained a loyal following, with ratings soaring season after season (remaining well ahead of Millionaire Hot Seat).
In addition to its regular episodes, The Chase Australia has expanded its horizons with an exciting prime-time celebrity series and a spin-off known as Beat The Chasers.
