The Card Counter movie preview
In The Card Counter, Oscar Isaac plays the role of William Tell, an ex-military interrogator turned gambler. He gambles for a living, trying his best to stay low-key and small, unseen by everybody in the world of gambling.
His anonymity ends when, one day, he meets an angry young man seeking revenge for his father’s death. This young man has awakened his dark past and revealed the tragic path he took in the military prison with which he no longer wants to be associated.
As this revenge thriller tells the story of a military interrogator haunted by his past, we can see his spartan existence on the casino trail is shaken by his encounter with Cirk (Tye Sheridan). Both of them share a mutual enemy, Major John Gordo (William Dafoe).
As a man’s moral responsibility, Tell wants to spare Cirk from the hell he went through back in the military prison, offering the young man to take him along so that he’s spared from a life of violence.
Meanwhile, the mysterious gambling financier La Linda (Tiffany Haddish) offers a stake to William, which he eventually accepts after initially refusing. With an unlikely trio, William, Cirk, and La Linda join the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
William keeps Cirk as his redeeming mission from his dark past, leading him away from a life consumed by hatred. However, Cirk remains to be fueled with anger and just wants to seek vengeance.
From start to finish, Paul Schrader’s brilliance behind the camera is witnessed in this revenge thriller movie. How will an angry young man seek revenge on a retired military major with the help of an ex-military interrogator?
Paul Schrader, who directed and wrote the film, fully immersed himself in the world of gambling and military prison to come up with a masterpiece we can all enjoy. Hence, The Card Counter garnered an 87% approval rating at Rotten Tomatoes, as well as received rave reviews during its premiere.
With Oscar Isaac, Tiffany Haddish, Tye Sheridan, and William Dafoe being in the cast, the drama film surely lives up to every movie junkie’s expectations. You can find out more about it as this will be streaming online soon!
