Ethan Hawke plays a deranged captor in this edge-of-your-seat horror flick The Black Phone. It’s based on Joe Hill’s short story of the same name, about a young boy (Finney Blake) kidnapped by an unhinged man named The Grabber. Trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming proves futile, he finds no means of escape. But when the disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims, giving him a fighting chance to break free.

Both a critical and commercial success, The Black Phone finally streams online in Australia, and using this guide you can find out how and when to watch it.

The Black Phone preview

In the streets of a Denver suburb lurks a serial child abductor and a sadistic killer named “The Grabber”, and bullied teenager Finney Blake (Mason Thames) is his latest victim. Alone and terrified, he sees no chance of ever getting out. But when a supposedly disconnected phone begins to ring, he begins to muster up the courage to escape and fight back. On the other line are the voices of the killer’s previous victims who are dead set to help Finney break out and finish The Grabber once and for all.

The Black Phone is directed by Scott Derrickson, who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside C. Robert Cargill. Derrickson took on the director role after leaving Marvel’s Doctor Strange sequel.
