The Banshees of Inisherin preview
Set at the end of the Irish civil war a remote Irish island of Inisherin, two lifelong friends find their relationship in a deadlock after folk musician Colm Doherty (Brendan Gleeson) begins ignoring his long-time friend and drinking buddy Pádraic Súilleabháin (Colin Farrell). He offers no explanation for his sudden indifference, just that he finds Pádraic “nice” but not interesting enough to keep him company.
Confused and dejected, Pádraic attempts to repair the relationship by finding out the real cause but to no avail. Refusing to take no for an answer, he’s assisted by his sister Siobhán (Kerry Condon) and troubled young islander Dominic (Barry Keoghan) to rectify his friendship with Colm.
But Pádraic’s persistent efforts only intensify his former friend’s resolve, letting events swiftly escalate into something unthinkable. Instead of hearing his pleas, Colm takes his stance to the next level by threatening to cut off his fingers every time Pádraic speaks to him. Unfortunately, he isn’t bluffing.
The Banshees of Inisherin is directed by Martin McDonagh, who also wrote its original screenplay. In addition to Farrell and Gleeson, the film features a brilliant cast that includes Kerry Condon (Better Call Saul) and Barry Keoghan (Eternals).
