In this 2022 animated comedy, being bad means zero accountability – unless you get caught. That’s why in The Bad Guys, the world’s most wanted villains decide to take on their most challenging con yet: becoming the good guys, at least attempting to be ones. Choosing to be model citizens, even if it’s under false pretenses, seems like a no-brainer that’s so much better than going to jail.
This is when The Bad Guy’s leader, Mr. Wolf, begins to feel that doing good deeds isn’t bad after all. As a matter of fact, being good gets him something that he’s always wanted: acceptance. But can Mr. Wolf persuade his cohorts to abandon their criminal life? And will the public accept them if they tried?
What’s in this Guide?
The Bad Guys movie preview
Mr. Wolf, Snake, Tarantula, Shark and Piranha have always been labelled as “bad” animals. With the public’s perception of them already established, they thought they might as well play the part – and that’s how they become a crackerjack criminal crew pulling off heists and making all kinds of troubles. After all, they’re bad.
But when their latest heist goes wrong, they fail to escape and the criminal outlaws are finally caught. Desperate to save himself and the rest of the gang from jail time, Mr. Wolf brokers a deal: they’ll start being good. He has no intention of keeping his promise, however; pretending to be good made him realise he actually wants to be one.
Complications arise when a new villain threatens the city and The Bad Guys get the blame. Even more challenging is Snake’s refusal to be good for real. There may be nasty speed bumps on the road to goodness, but there’s no obstacle that The Bad Guys cannot handle, even if being good means no more stealing, no more car chases, and no more menacing glares.
The animated film is based on Aaron Blabey’s children’s book series of the same name. Produced by DreamWorks Animation Studios and directed by Pierre Perifel (the Kung Fu Panda films animator), The Bad Guys features the voices of Sam Rockwell (Vice), Marc Maron (GLOW), Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians), Craig Robinson (The Office), and Anthony Ramos (A Star Is Born).
