Table tennis is one of the most underestimated sports out there. Not just in terms of enjoyment, but also in terms of skill. With an origin dating back to the 19th century, when old Englishmen played using books as nets, table tennis has become an increasingly popular sport in recent decades, helped by its inclusion in the Olympic Games since 1988.
Since then, China has been the dominant force in Olympic table tennis competitions, taking the Gold medal in 20 out of 24 Olympic games, with South Korea and Japan their closest rivals. With a wide array of events, including singles, doubles, and team events, table tennis often gets good coverage at the Olympics. At Japan 2020, there was even a new mixed doubles event, which was won by the Japanese after a tense final match.
