Sister Boniface Mysteries plot
Set in England during the early 1960s, the series follows the sleuthing exploits of the titular role as she assists the local authorities in their investigation of various crimes. Her character was initially introduced in the first season of Father Brown in an episode titled “The Bride of Christ”.
Sister Boniface has a PhD in forensic science. During the Second World War, she worked as a code breaker with the Bletchley Circle, an expertise that still comes in handy even after entering the convent.
Now focused on her religious duties at St. Vincent’s convent where she also makes wine, Sister Boniface still practices her forensic science expertise by being a part-time scientific adviser. Because when it comes to finding evidence, no one can do it like she does, making her an invaluable force among local police.
A collaboration between BBC Studios and Britbox, the light-hearted crime mystery series is created by writer Jude Tindall, who’s also credited for co-creating Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators.
