The eighth season of the popular crime show is now streaming in Australia, but where to watch Shetland TV series online?
While Shetland Series 8 originally premiered on BINGE and Foxtel last November 2023, new episodes are no longer available on the services with BBC First leaving Foxtel. For fans of the show, all eight seasons of Shetland are now exclusively available on BritBox.
For a limited period of time, Shetland Season 8 is also available to stream on ABC iView. New seasons of BBC shows like Shetland are usually on ABC’s catch-up platform for 30 days, launching around a year after the original broadcast on the BBC and BBC iPlayer. If a show is repeated, it will typically be available for another 30 days extra.
As for the latest Shetland Season 9 in Australia, we’ve yet to confirm the premiere date here, although we can expect for the new episodes to arrive exclusively on BritBox.

The latest eighth season is no longer available for streaming on demand on BINGE and Foxtel.
You can instead watch Shetland Series 8 in Australia on BritBox, which launched the new season on Thursday, 10 October, as well as on ABC iView until 12 January 2025.

When is Shetland Season 9 coming to Australia?
BritBox Australia has yet to confirm the premiere date but here’s what we know so far: Shetland Season 9 has already premiered in the UK last 6 November.
BritBox US then announced that the latest season is coming on 11 December. With this we can expect for Shetland Season 9 to be available on BritBox Australia soon!

Shetland Season 7 is a bittersweet season for long-time fans of the show with Douglas Henshall, who plays Jimmy Perez, leaving the series after seven seasons.
While his character’s arc is given a proper ending, not having DI Perez around to lead investigations and other mysterious crimes on the islands is bound to shake things up with the Scottish police.
In Shetland Season 8, Ashley Jensen (Extras)joins the cast as DI Ruth Calder. She took over detective duties from Douglas Henshall’s Detective Inspector Jimmy Pérez, and joined forces with Alison O’Donnell’s DI Alison “Tosh” McIntosh, a regular character since the first season.
DI Calder is a big shot detective with the Met in London, whose investigation of an informant’s murder led her all the way to Shetland, the very place she happened to grow up in. Naturally, she crosses paths with DI Tosh and they begin to investigate the crime together.

Douglas Henshall has played the lead role of Jimmy Perez for seven seasons. The detective inspector works alongside his team, played by Alison O’Donnell (Detective Sergeant Alison “Tosh” McIntosh) Steven Robertson (Detective Constable Sandy Wilson).
