The Donovan family legacy is one filled with traumas and violence and so the family ties that were excruciatingly complicated to begin with had its long-awaited face-off in Ray Donovan The Movie. Jon Voight and Liev Schreiber are back to play Ray and Mickey Donovan, whose problematic father and son relationship is further explored in the film with an origin story from 30 years ago.
For fans of the show, which aired on television for seven seasons, the movie is a fitting send-off, tying up major loose ends and showcasing a legacy coming full circle.

Ray Donovan: The Movie preview
Picking up where Season 7 left off, the film serves as Ray Donovan’s proper final season while giving fans a prologue and epilogue focusing on the fixer’s family woes. Finally, a showdown, decades in the making, gives fans the opportunity to take a long, hard look at the events that shaped Ray into the man he is now.
Because destiny dies hard, the Donovans are also forced to confront the past despite their hardest efforts to overcome their violent upbringing and a childhood that’s laced with pain and neglect. Ironically, only their fierce love for each other is what fuels them to fight and survive.
Liev Schreiber returns to play the title character with Eddie Marsan, Dash Mihok, Pooch Hall, Kerris Dorsey, and Jon Voight also reprising their roles as members of the Donovan family. Schreiber wrote the film alongside David Hollander, who also directed the movie. It first premiered on Showtime.
