A biographical miniseries that centres on Sex Pistols founding member and guitarist Steve Jones is now available on streaming TV. Directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire), Pistol follows Jones and the band’s rise to fame. Sex Pistols is credited for propelling the punk movement in the UK, but their massive success and influence is not without controversies and complications.
In Jones’ memoir, Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol, he gets candid about the rock and roll revolution that the band’s music initiated. Pistol is based on this memoir. Available on demand, here’s how you can watch episodes of Pistol in Australia.

Pistol series preview
The Sex Pistols series focusing on the life of Steve Jones was first announced last March. The TV adaptation of Jones’ memoir received heavy pushback from Johnny Rotten, born John Lydon (who also refused to get involved), but production went ahead with Danny Boyle directing.
While Pistol is mainly centred on Jones’ experiences and his point of view during Sex Pistols’ prominence in the 1970s, the series also chronicles major events and the choices made that ultimately paved the way for the band to change music and culture forever.
Jones’ hilarious, poignant, and even at times heart-rending journey allows us to see the Sex Pistols’ three-year journey of creating music in a new light – music that both captivated and shocked Britain. Branding themselves with their notorious musical style, which is also characterised by the chaos it inspires, Sex Pistols remains to be one of the most influential bands of all time.
Created and written by Craig Pearce, the limited series is headlined by Toby Wallace as Jones. Portraying the rest of the band members are Anson Boon as Johnny Rotten, Louis Partridge as Sid Vicious, Jacob Slater as Paul Cook, and Christian Lees as Glen Matlock.
