Nolly is ITV’s new drama about Crossroads star and soap opera actress Noele Gordon. Helena Bonham Carter plays the former ‘Queen of the Midlands’ in this biographical miniseries that explores the events after the beloved actress was unceremoniously sacked from Crossroads.

The actress played Meg Richardson in the long-running drama until her dismissal in 1981, at the height of the show’s success and the peak of Nolly’s fame. As the show’s most popular cast member, this didn’t fare well with fans, creating further drama and controversy that’s now slated to be immortalised on television.

Nolly TV series preview

From 1964 to 1981, actress Noele Gordon starred as the flame-haired widow Meg Richardson in the British soap opera, Crossroads. That is until she was fired by the higher-ups in their efforts to deliberately axe the madcap soap, sacking its most prominent star so that viewers would abandon the show. Being the Crossroads’ matriarch for 17 years, her abrupt dismissal caused outrage among soap opera fans.

More than forty years later, the incredible story of Noele Gordon’s termination from a show so popular it was watched by 15 million at its peak has been adapted for television. It’s created by writer Russell T Davies with Helena Bonham Carter playing the inimitable Noele Gordon.
