Netball fans in Australia will be thrilled that the 2023 Netball World Cup schedule has been finalised, and it promises to deliver ten days of non-stop action. This year’s World Cup will be held from 28 July to 6 August in Cape Town, South Africa.
The New Zealand Silver Ferns, who are the current world cup holders, will be facing off with the runners-up from the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup, the Australian Diamonds. The Diamonds are looking to return to the top once again, having won consecutive titles back in 2007, 2011 and 2015.
With so much riding on the tournament, fans will be excited to know there’s several options for watching live at home on TV, streaming the action to a mobile device, or catching replays after the matches have concluded.
How to Watch the 2023 Netball World Cup in Australia
The 2023 Netball World Cup is the sixteenth staging of Netball’s premier competition. It will be held at the International Convention Centre in Cape Town, South Africa and is the tournament’s first time to be held in Africa. The tournament, which was founded in 1963, also celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.
A total of sixteen teams will compete for the title across 10 days while playing a combined 60 matches. Six teams will automatically qualified, including the host-country South Africa and the top five teams in World Netball Rankings (Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, England and Uganda). Five regional tournaments have already decided the remaining ten teams, with two teams qualifying from each.
The 2023 Netball World Cup broadcast rights in Australia belong almost exclusively to Fox Sports (Foxtel/Kayo), with all sixty games including the Group stage, playoffs and finals available to watch live. The live action begins Friday, 28 July, with four Group matches during the evening, and then the Opening Ceremony at midnight (AEST).
Fortunately, there are a variety of ways to watch the Netball World Cup on Fox Sports in Australia, including Foxtel, Foxtel Now, Telstra and Kayo Sports. The television broadcasts will be shown on SBS Viceland, and will likewise be available to stream live on SBS on Demand. The Semi Final matches are scheduled from Saturday, 5 August, with the championship Final set for Sunday, 6 August.
