Featuring an ensemble led by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, Morning Wars examines the ruthless world of morning news and the people living in it. At the centre of it all are two women navigating the jungle that is the male-dominated broadcast news, all the while barely handling their personal lives. One of Apple TV+’s most-watched series, Morning Wars brazenly tackles the power dynamics between men and women, and in the case of the show’s protagonists, women and women.
Originally titled The Morning Show, the Apple original series is renamed Morning Wars in Australia to distinguish the show from the Australian morning talk show of the same name.

Morning Wars (aka The Morning Show) preview
The Morning Show explores the culture behind the popular news program of the same name on the UBA network. Anchoring the show, which enjoys popularity and high viewership, are Alex Levy (Aniston) and Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell). But when Mitch becomes the subject of a sexual misconduct, the male co-anchor is forced out of the show, leaving Alex to fight tooth and nail to retain her top news anchor status.
The arrival of Bradley Jackson (Witherspoon), Mitch’s replacement, also threatens the veteran anchor’s place in broadcast news with the network scheming to force her out of the program. So while partners on television, Alex and Bradley have a lingering tension that increasingly complicates their relationship.
But over the past two seasons, it would seem that The Morning Show’s anchors have reached an understanding that helps them tolerate each other both in a professional and personal setting. They are neither friends nor enemies who have come to understand the cutthroat industry they’re in.
There may be lots of times when they challenge and treat the other as a rival, but there are also a few genuine moments when the two women respect one another.
In the upcoming third season, the future of UBA is further threatened, pushing its employees to contemplate switching sides. Even more so when a tech titan takes an interest in the network, resulting in unlikely alliances and compromised truths. With everyone forced to confront their morals both in their personal and professional lives, The Morning Show is likely to suffer a major blow from all its internal disarray.
Expect new faces to shake up the already tumultuous world of UBA with Mad Men star Jon Hamm joining the main cast, as well as Nicole Beharie (Sleepy Hollow) who will play a new anchor named Christine Hunter.
Created by Jay Carson, the series is inspired by Brian Stelter’s 2013 book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV. It offers a clearer glimpse of the captivating world of morning television by exploring topical storylines and featuring extraordinary characters led by the phenomenal Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass also star, while Steve Carrell starred in Seasons 1-2.
