In the hectic streets of New York City, we meet the flamboyant failed showman, Hector P. Valenti (Javier Bardem). Despite his charismatic personality, Hector’s dreams of making it big on a national talent show are repeatedly shattered. However, fate takes an unexpected turn one day when he stumbles upon an extraordinary discovery.

Hector finds himself wandering into an exotic pet store. To his amazement, he comes across a singing baby crocodile that instantly captures his heart. Naming the crocodile Lyle, Hector sees this unique creature as his golden ticket to success for a global audience.

With dreams of wealth and fame, Hector takes a daring leap by offering his cherished three-story Victorian brownstone house on East 88th Street as collateral for Lyle’s performances. But alas, destiny has other plans in store. On the night of the grand premiere, Lyle suffers from stage fright, leaving Hector devastated and losing his beloved house in the process.

Meanwhile, a new chapter begins on the charming East 88th Street. Joseph and Katie Primm, along with their young son Josh, move into the very house that once belonged to Hector. Unbeknownst to them, the house holds a remarkable secret—one that will soon bring unexpected joy and adventure into their lives.

The story then begins to follow the young boy Josh, who finds himself struggling to adapt to his new school and new friends. His world is turned upside down when he discovers Lyle, a big, singing crocodile who loves baths and great music living in the attic of their new home. With Lyle’s existence discovered, Josh finds an unlikely friend, ultimately helping him settle. With the help of his parents, they also protect their new crocodile friend from the prying eyes of the world and their evil neighbor Mr. Grumps.
