Loki is perhaps MCU’s most beloved anti-hero, debuting as the adoptive son of Odin and adopted brother of Thor in the 2011 movie of the same name. With his shady intentions and a penchant for serving no one but himself, he was regarded by the ancient Norse people as the god of mischief, trickery, and deception. While he was initially introduced as an enemy, Loki has since evolved into a likeable character who cares deeply for his brother and friends introduced to him along the way, no matter how hard he tries to hide it.
After a series focusing on Loki’s own adventures and mischief was greenlit, fans saw another version of him in an alternate timeline in Marvel Studios’ Loki. With Tom Hiddleston reprising the character, the series was a huge success, leading to its second season renewal. Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame when Loki steals the Tesseract, we see an alternate version of himself brought to the mysterious Time Variance Authority (TVA), an organisation that monitors the timeline. Regarded as a “time variant”, his existence is threatened into being erased, unless he helps the TVA fix the timeline that he broke in the first place as a result of him stealing the Tesseract and teleporting away.
The six-episode first season ended on a cliffhanger when Sylvie, a Loki variant, kills He Who Remains, a 31st century scientist who created TVA to protect the Sacred Timeline. His death will naturally unleash a multiverse with more alternate timelines and the return of his other variants, potentially causing another Multiversal War.
The grave consequences are almost instantaneous; when Loki tried to stop Sylvie from killing He Who Remains, she sent him back to the TVA headquarters where no one recognised him. With the creation of a multiverse, which is bound to unleash unimaginable tragedies, Loki will need to join forces with Mobius, Hunter B-15, and other TVA agents, re-gaining their trust once again.
Created by Michael Waldron, the Loki TV series is Marvel Studios’ third series and shares continuity with the Avengers movies. Loki’s second season will be part of Marvel’s Phase Five. It stars Tom Hiddleston as the title role, Owen Wilson as TVA agent Mobius, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, and Jonathan Majors as He Who Remains.
Eric Martin wrote all episodes for Loki Season 2. Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead headline the directing team with the duo also directing two episodes of Marvel’s Moon Knight.

The second season of Loki is scheduled to debut on Disney+ on 6 October 2023, and will consist of six episodes. New episodes will roll out on streaming TV every week until its season finale on 10 November.

Tom Hiddleston returns in Loki Season 2, alongside most of the show’s main cast, including Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Tara Strong as the voice of Miss Minutes, and Eugene Cordero as Casey/Hunter K-5E. It’s also been reported that Richard E. Grant will make another appearance as the comic book inspired “Classic Loki”. Jonathan Majors is also set to return, likely as one of his He Who Remains’ variants.
