Despite the stature of the two teams being chalk-and-cheese, Liverpool against Crystal Palace in the Premier League has often thrown up excitement, shock, and often a lot of goals. We’ll get you the know-how to watch the game.
Premier League preview: Liverpool vs Crystal Palace
Both clubs will start the season to prosper up the table but will have different expectations when it comes to acquiring silverware. Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool has the right to challenge for every trophy going – as proven by thoughts of a potential quadruple-winning campaign last season. That didn’t quite materialise but Mohamed Salah and the rest of the team did lift two trophies in the form of the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup. The upcoming season will demand more of the same.
Patrick Vieira revitalised Crystal Palace by changing the football philosophy from what had been a very defensive style during the Roy Hodgson era. That 12th-placed finish last season can be improved on, that said it was more difficult than anticipated as Conor Gallagher, who was instrumental in Palace’s ascendency, left the club as his loan deal expired.

Key Players
Liverpool select players
Fondly known as the Egyptian King, Mohamed Salah has definitely laid claim to the throne at Anfield. He scored 23 goals last season despite missing some of the campaign having joined up the Egypt squad for the African Cup of Nations which took place concurrently with the Premier League. Salah has even scored an impressive seven goals in this particular game against Palace. Can he take it to double digits this season?
Virgil van Dijk became the most expensive defender at the time of his arrival at Liverpool from Southampton. His steely resilience in the backline is unwavering from the first to the last whistle as he commands the defence with collected leadership.
Joining him at the back is the local lad and now Anfield sensation, Trent Alexander-Arnold. While he starts in the traditional right-back role, he often makes darting runs through the wider channels, as he chips in with several assists per season and has a great shot on him for a defender.
Crystal Palace select players
While the Crystal Palace squad falls short of being the ‘Wilfried Zaha Show’, it’s a fair consideration after his tenure and success with the club. The Ivorian has shown a knack to carry and distribute the ball well to his teammates; as well as scoring a healthy tally for himself.
Jean-Philippe Mateta joined the club in January 2021 during the winter transfer window, before making the move permanent a year later. Despite not setting the world alight initially, his first full season merited why he was brought to the Premier League as he retains the ball in most plays; while also finding space on the pitch to help facilitate elongated attacks.
