Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) plays Mira, an American movie star disillusioned by her career. Also suffering from a recent breakup, she heads to France to star as Irma Vep in a remake of the French silent film classic, Les Vampires. But instead of providing her an escape from her internal dilemmas, Mira struggles further as the character she plays begin to overshadow her true self.
Irma Vep is scheduled to have its world premiere at the 2022 Festival de Cannes. Creator Olivier Assayas started developing the miniseries in May 2020, with his original film (which starred Maggie Cheung) serving as a loose adaptation.
By December of that year, HBO issued a series order with Assayas writing and directing. Assayas is a celebrated French filmmaker with a long list of acclaimed films, including Summer Hours, Carlos, Clouds of Sils Maria, Personal Shopper, Non-Fiction and Wasp Network.
Aside from Assayas, executive producers for the series also include, Sylvie Barthet, Daniel Delume, Ravi Nandan, Hallie Sekoff, Kevin Turen, Stuart Manashil, Sam Levinson and Ashley Levinson.

Irma Vep was announced as a limited drama consisting of eight episodes only, which makes a second season unlikely. However, that can still change as soon as the series premieres.

The TV series had world premiere at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and launched on HBO and streaming via HBO Max. In Australia, BINGE announced the premiere date to be on 7th June 2022.
