What’s in this Guide?
Elvis (2022) preview
This new Elvis biopic follows the life of rock and roll singer and actor Elvis Presley from the perspective of his manager Colonel Tom Parker. After seeing Presley perform at a “Louisiana Hayride” event, Parker recognises his utmost star potential, discovering a talented musician who can easily capture the female audiences’ attention. From then on, Parker becomes in-charge of Presley’s career that ultimately catapulted him to fame.
The film also portrays Parker’s control in the singer’s career direction, wanting him to only perform feel-good songs despite Presley’s interest in becoming politically outspoken in his music. Finally, the weight of his colossal stardom takes a toll in his personal life with his problematic behavior and prescription drug addiction overtaking him. His wife Priscilla Presley leaves him as a result, taking their daughter Lisa Marie with her.
Director Baz Luhrmann also wrote the screenplay for the film, alongside Sam Bromell, Craig Pearce, and Jeremy Doner. Starring Austin Butler, Elvis is one of the best movies of 2022 with three nominations at the Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture – Drama.
