Based on the legendary roleplaying game of the same name, the 2023 Dungeons and Dragons movie follows peacekeeper-turned-thief Edgin Darvis, portrayed by Chris Pine, and his team of unlikely adventurers. While the group has since ventured into a life of thieving, they’re the only heroes who can save the world from being overtaken by evil. But first they need to recover a long-lost relic.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves plot
In this action-packed adventure, Chris Pine plays charming thief Edgin Darvis, who, after losing his wife, turns to a life of theft to start anew with her daughter, Kira (Chloe Coleman), with the help of Holga Kilgore (Rodriguez). Only his plan of beginning a new life is interrupted after they’re caught, leading to their imprisonment.
After their narrow escape, he learns that he has worked with the wrong people: his former allies and accomplices Forge Fitzwilliam (Hugh Grant) and Sofina (Daisy Head) orchestrated his capture and are now enjoying their newly acquired wealth and power by ruling Neverwinter and its people.
Determined to prove his innocence and get his daughter back, who’s under the guardianship of Forge himself, Edgin has to retrieve the Tablet of Reawakening, which he also wants so badly to resurrect his deceased wife. But getting his hand on this ancient and powerful relic is no easy feat, which is why he needs more allies with him, including amateur sorcerer Simon Aumar (Justice Smith), a druid named Doric (Sophia Lillis), and the paladin Xenk Yendar (Regé-Jean Page).
Embarking on a dangerously awry mission, the adventurers undertake their final epic heist to save the world from the evil machinations of Forge and Sofina, who turns out to be a Red Wizard, known across the lands for their nefarious spell-casting abilities. Sofina also plans to turn the people of Neverwinter into an undead army, just like what happened using the same curse that destroyed Thay, Xenk’s country.
The new Dungeons and Dragons movie is directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, best known for their work in Game Night and Horrible Bosses, from a screenplay they co-wrote with Michael Gilio. A big cinematic event especially for long-time fans of the classic TTRPG, this 2023 film adaptation succeeds in showcasing the rich world and adventure-filled spirit of the iconic roleplaying game.
