What is the plot of Dune: Part One?
Released in 2021, the first Dune movie follows the journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) to defeat fear and fulfill his destiny by traversing the most dangerous planet in the universe, Arrakis.
Paul is the ducal heir of House Atreides, currently led by his father Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac). While he’s troubled by his visions of the future, he’s a gifted young man born into a destiny he has yet to understand. To ensure the future of their people, their house accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis.
While vicious in its nature, the planet is the only source of “the spice”, a valuable substance that heightens one’s vitality and awareness. Unbeknownst to them, political foes are just waiting to strike.
As control of Arrakis guarantees higher power, malevolent forces will stop at nothing to retake the planet and claim its most precious resources. After House Atreides is betrayed, Paul must conquer his fear and embrace his destiny, ultimately finding himself with the Fremen, Arrakis’ mysterious natives.
2021’s Dune is the second adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel following David Lynch’s 1984 version. It was one of the best films of 2021, praised for its remarkable science fiction themes, visuals, and performances. It received 10 nominations at the 94th Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
