With Avatar: The Way of Water doing incredibly well in theatres, now is the best time to rewatch its predecessor, 2009’s Avatar. Notable filmmaker James Cameron began development of the film in the 1990s but was pushed back because the technology available at the time was not sufficient to achieve the director’s vision of the movie. After more than a decade since its inception, Avatar finally graced the big screens to overwhelming success. Since it’s been 13 years since Avatar was released, many might want to watch the first movie again before heading to the theatre to watch the 2022 sequel.
Fortunately, it’s easy to watch it online. Find out how using this guide.

Avatar movie preview
Set in the mid-22nd century, the humans are colonising Pandora, a habitable moon of a gas giant in the Alpha Centauri star system with abundant natural resources. But the most valuable of them all is the mineral unobtanium. However, the expansion of the mining colony threatens the very existence of the Na’vi people, a humanoid species indigenous to Pandora.
To explore Pandora, scientists utilise Na’vi-human hybrids called “avatars”. One member of the Avatar Program is Jake Sully, a paraplegic marine who joins to replace his deceased twin brother, who was supposed to be a part of the program as an operator. While escorting the avatars of program head Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) and Dr. Norm Spellman (Joel David Moore), Jake meets Neytiri, a female Na’vi who he eventually falls in love with.
Torn between his so-called duties with the humans and his growing bond with Neytiri and her clan, the rising conflict between two species has Jake eventually making a moral decision, choosing to fight with the Na’vi people to defend their lands and heritage from human greed and exploitation.
