Kenneth Branagh returns as the famed detective Hercule Poirot in A Haunting in Venice, adapted from the 1969 novel Hallowe’en Party by Agatha Christie. The upcoming film serves as the sequel to Death on the Nile, or the third instalment of the modern Hercule Poirot movies brought to the big screens by Branagh himself and writer Michael Green. Just like the previous movies, A Haunting in Venice features an ensemble cast that includes Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Kelly Reilly, and Michelle Yeoh.
If you enjoyed Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile, both films starring Branagh as the celebrated sleuth Hercule Poirot with a brilliant acting ensemble to boot, the third film is welcome news for fans of whodunit and prolific writer of such, the all time best-selling fiction author Agatha Christie.
What’s in this Guide?
A Haunting in Venice plot
The stage is set for a terrifying mystery featuring sleuthing detective Hercule Poirot in this latest Agatha Christie adaptation. Content in his own company in the world’s most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance on Hallows Eve at a haunted palazzo despite his misgivings. It turns out he needs to be there now more than ever as one of the guests is found murdered. A frightening and puzzling death in his midst, he must come out of retirement and do what he does best – solving even the most complex of cases.
The mystery only deepens when his investigation and untangling of a murky past further thrust him into a sinister world of secrets and eerie mysteries. With supernatural elements involved, A Haunting in Venice should be different from its predecessors, Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile.
The third film is directed by and starring Academy Award-winner Kenneth Branagh, with a screenplay by Academy Award-nominee Michael Green (Logan), based on Agatha Christie’s novel Hallowe’en Party. Branagh also serves as producer alongside Judy Hofflund, Ridley Scott, and Simon Kinberg; Louise Killin, James Prichard, and Mark Gordon serve as executive producers.
