What channel is the AFL live on TV Today?

The Seven network is the official AFL free to air broadcast provider in Australia, showing a minimum of three live games per round, as well as every match of the Finals Series including the AFL Grand Final. Their coverage includes expert analysis before kick-off and after the final siren.

Channel Seven will televise AFL games on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, while the network’s Sunday broadcast goes out on 7Mate.

These AFL free to air options are live broadcasts only, meaning you can’t stream games via Network Seven’s streaming platform, 7Plus, as these rights belong to Foxtel and Kayo.

If you love to watch live AFL on TV or via online streaming, then Fox Footy is a great option to watch every AFL match live or on-demand (excluding the Grand Final). Fox Footy coverage is available to watch in Australia via Foxtel, Foxtel Now, Telstra and Kayo Sports.

Channel 7 AFL commentary team

AFL broadcasts on Seven and 7Mate are hosted by Brian Taylor. He is joined by the likes of James Brayshaw, Hamish McLachlan and Luke Darcy as the Seven Network’s key commentators.

They are joined by former players like Wayne Carey, Leigh Matthews, Tim Watson, Cameron Ling, Jimmy Bartel and Abbey Holmes for pre and post-match analysis.

Popular AFL Shows on Seven

As well as live AFL free to air coverage, Network Seven has plenty of other content to keep footy fans happy. There are two footy shows that give fans the lowdown on all the key talking points within the game.

The Front bar

Hosted by journalists Andy Maher and comedians Mick Molly and Sam Pang, The Front Bar is one of Seven’s most popular AFL shows. As fond of looking at the past as it is the present, it’s a humorous take on everything footy by a group of blokes that love a laugh.

Each episode goes out at 11.00pm on Seven every Thursday throughout the season.

Sunday Footy Fest

Looking for a round-up of all AFL games on TV as well as highlights from the VFL and WAFL? Then you can’t afford to miss the Sunday Footy Fest.

It’s presented by Abbey Gelmi who is joined by Seven’s commentary team straight after the Sunday night action is all over.

How to watch AFL games today: Channel 7 vs Fox Footy

Channel Seven’s television coverage is limited to between three and four games live per week across most locations in Australia (Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide).

The live games on channel Seven will be made available to watch later on-demand using the 7Plus streaming app. However, 7Plus does not offer live AFL streaming in 2025 until the Grand Final.

For comparison, the Fox Footy channel courtesy of Foxtel and Kayo Sports, will televise every match from every round live, and ad-break free, before the Grand Final. That equals up to five exclusive games each week.

This includes up to three exclusive matches on Saturday, and two on Sunday, as well as offering the option to stream every AFL match live (excluding the Grand Final) regardless of which network is carrying it.

Foxtel and Kayo also have secured exclusive broadcast rights to every AFL Match Simulation and pre-season Community series game, so you never have to worry about getting your fill of footy.
