This epic period drama is based in Singapore around the time of the Japanese invasion. The narrative follows Walter Blackett, a wealthy British rubber merchant who is trying to secure his family’s assets, whilst his business partner’s health deteriorates. But with the entire world at war, there is little room for error.
When Blackett’s daughter falls for his associate’s son, he sees it as the perfect match and the natural next step for his business. But the interference of a mysterious Chinese woman makes him increasingly suspicious, and fearful that his fortune will disappear alongside Britain’s imperial empire.
