What is the TV series Clipped about?
As per the official synopsis, “FX’s Clipped takes you behind the scenes of a notorious NBA owner’s racist remarks, captured on a tape heard around the world.”
The limited series also explores the dynamics of a dysfunctional basketball team, better known for bringing in losses rather than victories. Under Donald Sterling’s ownership, the Clippers were even cited as the worst franchise in North American professional team sports.
So when famed coach Doc Rivers (Laurence Fishburne) enters the picture, he has one goal in mind – secure the franchise’s first championship. He only has one major challenge, Sterling, the team’s owner, has a penchant for getting into trouble for his problematic behaviour. His would-be infamous recordings leaked to the press are proof.
Clipped also examines the nasty power struggle between Sterling’s ambitious assistant and mistress V. Stiviano (Cleopatra Coleman) and his wife and business partner Shelly (Jacki Weaver), the bad blood between the two women contributing to the eventual demise of Sterling’s sporting career.
Created by Gina Welch, Clipped is based on the ESPN 30 for 30 podcast The Sterling Affairs. Welch also serves as executive producer for the series with Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Zanne Devine, Ramona Shelburne, and Kevin Bray.
